We have been receiving quite a few emails from our clients on what the message “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.” means.
When updating WordPress, plugins, or themes, the WordPress system creates a file called .maintenance and places it in your sites root directory.
It then displays the following on screen to anyone that views your site.
“Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.”
This file will be automatically removed when the process is completed – if the process fails, the file could get stuck in your on your account, so you have to remove it manually.
To remove it manually you will need to either login to your hosting account via FTP, or by using your cPanel account’s file manager.
The File will be located in your /public_html folder for your hosting account.
If you are an RFE Hosting Client and are having this issue and are unable to remove it yourself, please feel free to contact us and we would be happy to resolve it for you.
